Key Disciplines and Research

The university currently has seven fields of disciplines conferring academic degrees (Engineering, Education, Science, Management, Economics, Literature, and Art), one post-doctoral research center (Jointly established by the university and Tianjin No. 1 Machine Tool Works), two provincial/ministerial level laboratories (the Laboratory of High-Speed Cutting and Precision Machining and the Laboratory of Information Sensing and Intelligent Control) and a provincial/ministerial level research base of Humanities and Social Sciences (the Research Center for Teacher Competence and Professional Competence). In 2003, the university was approved to provide master’s degree programs, being the first college of its kind to have such qualification and status. In 2008, the Degree Office of State Council gave the university the approval to provide master’s degree programs to present secondary vocational teachers in three disciplines. At present, the university has one doctor’s degree program, 10 master’s degree programs, and 38 undergraduate programs. Among them, four programs including Machinery Manufacturing and Automation, Vocational and Technical Education, Vehicle Operation Engineering, and Application Engineering of Carrying Tools have been recognized as Tianjin municipal level key disciplines, six programs including Machinery Manufacturing, Technical Education, Vehicle Maintenance Engineering, Electrical Technology Education, Electronic and Information Engineering, Vocational and Technical Education, Management, and Computer Science and Technology have been developed into programs with special characteristics.

Tianjin Key Discipline – Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation

Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation is one of the municipal level key disciplines of Tianjin. It is also the first discipline of TUTE authorized to provide master’s degree program. In 2003, the Degree Office of State Council authorized the university to provide master’s degree programs of the discipline, making it the first discipline to have master’s degree program within higher education institutes of the same kind with TUTE. In 2008, the college was approved to provide master’s degree level training for in-service teachers of secondary vocational schools. The discipline of the university enjoys an outstanding faculty team and excellent research conditions. It is also one of the two disciplines of the university having a Tianjin municipal level key laboratory- the Laboratory of High-Speed Cutting and Precision Machining.

Tianjin Key Discipline – Vocational and Technical Education

As one of the three backbone disciplines of TUTE, Vocational and Technical Education is one of the first municipal level key disciplines of Tianjin. In 2008, the discipline of vocational and technical education was honored as a national excellent course and the department was rewarded as “Tianjin Excellent Teaching Troup”. In 2009, based on this discipline, the university set up the key base of humanities and social sciences of Tianjin which the secretarial work of the Professional Committee of Vocational Teachers as well as the Professional Committee of Vocational Guidance of the China Society of Vocational and Technical Education.

Tianjin Key Discipline – Vehicle Operation Engineering

Vehicle Operation Engineering is one of the key higher education disciplines of Tianjin and is also a multidisciplinary specialty. In 2009, it acquired the qualification to provide master’s degree level training for secondary vocational school teachers. The discipline has built an outstanding faculty team with discipline leaders and academic backbones of strong research capability and development potentials. The specialty is of distinct characteristics. It is mainly engaged in the research of the basic theory of high and new technology and the research of engineering application; it emphasizes the importance of international academic communication and cooperation.  

Tianjin Key Discipline –Control Science and Engineering

Control Science and Engineering is a primary discipline of the university qualified to confer master's degree, it is also a municipal level key discipline of Tianjin. Oriented to meet demands of the society and the various industrial sectors, especially the emerging industries and the eight leading industries of Tianjin, the discipline focuses on studying information detection and robot control, new energy resources and facility agriculture systems, bio-signal processing and medical device system, and smart home control system. The discipline has established a number of laboratories and research training centers including the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Information Sensing and Intelligent Control, the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences -Joint Lab of Information Sensing and Intelligent Control, the Siemens Drives Technology Laboratory, the Chinese Youth Robot Contest Activity Research and Training Center of China Association for Science and Technology, Jin Shizun Technology R&D Center, etc. We have advanced equipments and facilities which make us of the leading discipline in the field. The discipline has a highly qualified team composed of 28 professors and associate professors of which 19 teachers have doctor’ degree. This disciplinary have long-term cooperation relations with the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and colleges and universities as well as renowned enterprise of China in building and developing joint research and development team, talent cultivation, technological development, achievement transformation, etc. The major aim and characteristics of the discipline is to train "double-competency” teachers and senior technical personnel of both theoretical knowledge and professional skills. The discipline of the university have successfully acquired a number of national 973 planning projects, national 863 planning projects, national natural science foundation and other research projects. It has obtained several provincial scientific awards and registered many national invention patents.

Tianjin Key Laboratory of High Speed Cutting and Precision Processing

The laboratory is established based on the discipline of “Mechanical manufacturing and automation” in 2008 by the university and acknowledged by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission and Tianjin Education commission in the same year. The laboratory’s research areas include basic theory of high speed and high precision processing and common problems in the production process. Its major research directions include high-speed and high precision processing technology, high-speed cutting theory, and the key technologies of high-speed cutting equipments.The laboratory is equipped with first-class equipments and enjoys an outstanding research team of 20 experts. Since its establishment, the laboratory has carried out more than 20 research projects, acquired over 5.4 million Yuan research fund, and published more than 80 articles at home and abroad.

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Information Sensing and Intelligent Control

Relying on supports from the Institute of Semiconductor of Chinese Academy of Science, Tianjin University of Technology and Education, Tianjin Industry-university-research Joint Laboratory of Information Sensing and Intelligent Control of Tianjin Hi-tech Development Co.,Ltd, the advantages and unique characteristics of the Industry-university-research Joint Research Base, the laboratory has ambitiously of embraced the technology of information sensing and information interactive processing technology, intelligent control system application, new energy sources intelligent control application as its major  research directions so as to meet the industrial demand of Tianjin and Binhai New Development Zone. The laboratory undertakes both basic science research and basic science application research but with special focuses in key technology research and the commercialization of scientific and technological research achievements. Recently, the laboratory has secured a number of major scientific and technological research projects including 863 program projects, NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China) projects, Tianjin Science and Technology Support Plan projects, and has won provincial level or state level science and technology awards many times.

Tianjin key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Science - The Research and Development Center of Vocational Ability and Pedagogic Ability

Aiming to contribute to the development of nationwide and Tianjin vocational education, relying on the Tianjin key discipline of “Vocational and Technical Education”, the laboratory has been conducting research in the fields of social occupations and vocational education teacher development, the formation and evaluation of the professional ability of vocational school teachers, the development of the disciplinary system of vocational and technical education, the training regularity of vocational teachers, and the regularities in the development of Tianjin characteristic vocational education and its pedagogic ability requirement for teachers.

The project of “Portable Physiological Signal Monitoring System Development and Application” led by Prof. Cul Shigang is a major project of Tianjin Binhai science and technology development plan of Chinese Academy of Sciences
